چکیده

Ackermann, W. W. (The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor), and D. Wahl. Programming of poliovirus inhibition of deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis in HeLa cells. J. Bacteriol. 92:1051-1054. 1966.-Deletion of arginine from a culture medium reduced the rate of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis in uninfected HeLa cells. The normal rate was promptly restored by addition of arginine. Deletion of arginine also prevented poliovirus from inhibiting DNA synthesis in HeLa cells. However, the inhibitory potential of the infection and the capacity of the host cell for stimulation with regard to DNA synthesis were both retained in arginine-depleted cells which were infected. Upon addition of arginine late in the infection, DNA synthesis was first stimulated and then inhibited.

Specific effect of guanidine in the programming of poliovirus inhibition of deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis.

Inhibition of HeLa cell deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis, which occurred by the 4th to 5th hr after infection with poliovirus, could be blocked completely by guanidine only when it was present before the 2nd hr. At the 2nd hr, there was no significant ribonucleic acid (RNA)-replicase activity, and addition of guanidine inhibited all production of virus but allowed 57% of maximal DNA inhibi...

Poliovirus Particles do not Form in Preinfected Cells with Reovirus

Background and Aims: Inhibition of viral growth in coinfected cells with two different viruses has been described. This phenomenon known as viral interference can occur in several virus host systems such as interference of enterovirus infection on poliovirus vaccine strains. In this study we superinfected reovirus infected HeLa cells with poliovirus to determine if poliovirus can replicate in s...

Deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis, cell cycle progression, and division of Chlamydia-infected HeLa 229 cells.

The fate of lymphogranuloma venereum strain Chlamydia-infected HeLa 229 cells was examined by determining the rate of deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis and the kinetics of entry into and progression through S phase and by time-lapse cinemicrography. At an input multiplicity of 5 or less, Chlamydia-infected cells showed no inhibition of host deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis or cell cycle progressio...

Poliovirus mutant that does not selectively inhibit host cell protein synthesis.

A poliovirus type I (Mahoney strain) mutant was obtained by inserting three base pairs into an infectious cDNA clone. The extra amino acid encoded by the insertion was in the amino-terminal (protein 8) portion of the P2 segment of the polyprotein. The mutant virus makes small plaques on HeLa and monkey kidney (CV-1) cells at all temperatures. It lost the ability to mediate the selective inhibit...
